Chittagong Hill Tracts



Bandarban:

Bandarban (Bengali:বান্দরবান) is a district in South-Eastern Bangladesh, and a part of the Chittagong Division and Chittagong Hill Tracts. Bandarban is regarded as one of the most attractive travel destinations in Bangladesh. Bandarban town is the home town of the Bohmong Chief (currently King, or Raja, U Cho Prue Marma) who is the head of the Marma population. It also is the administrative headquarter of Bandarban District, which has turned into one of the most exotic tourist attractions in Bangladesh since the insurgency in Chittagong Hill Tracts has ceased more than a decade back.

Bandarban Town:

A nearly 52 km² hill-town housing about 32,000 people, of which the majority are Marma. There is a Tribal Cultural Institute here, which features a library and a museum. The town also features Bandarban Town Hospital (offering the best medical service in the district), the District Public Library, Bandarban Government College, The District Stadium, Banashri- The Solitary Movie theatre, The Royal Cemetery, and, of course, The Royal Palace (two of them since the 11th and 13th royal lines both claim the throne). Apart from the numerous kyangs and mosques, there is a temple dedicated to Kali, the most revered goddess of Hindus is Bangladesh, as well as a center maintained by ISKON.

Bandarban Sadar, Thanchi, Lama, Naikhongchhari, Ali kadam, Rowangchhari, and Ruma are the administrative sub-districts of Bandarban. 


Beauty of Bandarban:

There are many beautiful place in Babdarban. If you enjoy natural heaven you must come to Bandarban. The main attractive places of Bandarban are Meghla Parjatan Kendro, Nilachol, Golden Temple, Ram Jadi, Shoilaprapat, Prantik Lake, Chimbuk, Boga Lake, Keokaradong, Tajindong, Shangu River, Mirinja Parjatan, Upoban Porjatan etc...

Port City Chittagong


Patenga Beach:

Patenga is a popular tourist spot. The beach is very close to the Bangladesh Naval Academy of the Bangladesh Navy, Shah Amanat International Airport and Butter Fly Park. Its width is narrow and swimming in the seas is not recommended. Part of the seashore is built-up with concrete walls, and large blocks of stones have been laid to prevent attrition.
Nowadays, different common recreation elements like ice cream, cold drinks, energy drinks are available at the beach. According to the local people, Patenga is the best place for delicious, mouth-watering street food at very low costs. One of the popular dishes of the food stands is the fried, spicy mud crab served with cucumber and onion. The beach has a wonderful cool atmosphere even at the evening, and people come to enjoy the soothing breeze. The beach is lined with massive shady palm trees and fishing boats. It also has an array of speed boats for visitors. The beach, however, is quite sandy, with a few rocky patches. Most visitors come to Patenga Beach as it is known for having some of the most stunning sunsets and sunrises in Bangladesh.


Foy’s Lake:

Foy’s Lake is a man-made lake in Chittagong, Bangladesh. It was created in 1924 by constructing a dam across the stream that came down from the hills in the northern part of Chittagong. The purpose of creating an artificial lake was to provide water to the residence of railway colony. It was named after Mr Foy who was a Railway engineer and believed to materialize the project. Pahartali was basically a railway town with workshop, yard and shed. A good number of railway employees lives there. Presently, a carriage workshop, diesel workshop, loco shed, laboratory, stores, electric workshop, school (established in 1924) are located.
The area belongs to Railway. However, an amusement park, managed by the Concord group, is located here.


Heritage Park:

There is a heritage park called Shaheed Zia Memorial Complex and Mini Bangladesh at Chandgaon which reflects the most notable structures and instances of Bangladesh. This 71-metre tower in Mini Bangladesh in Chittagong has a restaurant on the top that rotates once every 90 minutes. The museum includes a revolving restaurant. One can perceive of the country’s architectural beauty, ethnic traditions and archaeological inheritance through having a glimpse of the heritage park. Replica of major structures of the country, includes Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban (parliament building), National Memorial of Savar, Ahsan Manzil, Curzon Hall of Dhaka University, Paharpur Monastery, Kantajew Temple of Dinajpur, Lalbagh Fort and Sona Masjid. The park also has different rides for children.

Ethnological Museum of Chittagong:

The Ethnological Museum of Chittagong located in Agrabad, established in 1965, is the only ethnological museum in the country. It offers the visitors the chance to acquaint with the lifestyles and heritage of various ethnic groups of the country. The museum authority had collected rare elements used in everyday lives of different ethnic groups, of which some had already become extinct while some were on the verge of destruction. The museum contains four galleries and a small hall. Three galleries of the museum feature diverse elements of twenty nine ethnic groups in Bangladesh, while the rest of the gallery displays the lifestyles of some ethnic groups of India, Pakistan and Australia.

DC Hill Park:

Its location is only only one km. away from the Zero point (New Market). As the official resident of the Deputy Commissioner (D.C) is situated on the peak of this hill, so it is called as D.C Hill. Various types of flowering and fruit-bearing trees are plan fully planted encircling the slopes of the whole hill. Day long colorful programs are held in the front side slope of the hill at the first day of Bangali New Year (Pahela Baishakh) and therefore the hill is considered as a place of cultural and historical importance.

Divisions of Bangladesh:



Bangladesh is divided into seven major administrative regions called divisions (Bengali: বিভাগ Bibhag). Each division is named after the major city within its jurisdiction that serves as the administrative capital of that division:

  • Chittagong (চট্টগ্রাম Chôţţogram)
  • Dhaka (ঢাকা Đhaka)
  • Khulna (খুলনা Khulna)

2 more divisions have been proposed to ease down administrative work load due to population increase.
